CERAMIC ALUMINA

CERAMIC PLUS

ZIRCONIA ALUMINA

ALUMINUM OXIDE

SURFACE CONDITIONING MATERIAL

CERAMIC ALUMINA

GRIT: 24; 36; 40; 50; 60; 80; 120
PRODUCTS: Flap Discs; Belts; Flap Wheels; Resin Fiber Discs; Specialty Abrasives;
DESCRIPTION: Ceramic Alumina is an extraordinarily hard grain and is employed primarily for precision. It works well with most materials due to its fracturing and self-sharpening abilities, which also result in a steady consistent finish. Ceramic fractures to create sharper edges than Aluminum Oxide or Zirconia Alumina, which permits you to grind quicker and longer, thus achieving a longer tool life. It runs cooler than other abrasive grains because of its added grinding aid. While dissipating heat, it keeps the disc cool, which prolongs the lifespan. On difficult-to-grind materials, ceramic grain should be the first choice as they are optimal for aggressive material removal. It is best used on hard to grind materials, steels, stainless steel, soft carbon steel, exotic materials, and other heat sensitive applications.
BEST USED ON: Hard to grind materials; Steels; Stainless Steel; Soft Carbon Steel; Exotic materials; Other heat sensitive applications.

ZIRCONIA ALUMINA

GRIT: 24; 36; 40; 50; 60; 80; 100; 120
PRODUCTS: Flap Discs; Belts; Flap Wheels; Spiral Bands
DESCRIPTION: Zirconia Alumina is a step above Aluminum Oxide and is a mix of Aluminum Oxide and Zirconium Oxide. Zirconia Alumina wheels function differently in their fracturing process than Aluminum Oxide. The grain is not released by friction/heat but instead fractures to expose fresh edges that continuously cut. Removal rates are similar to a softer abrasive but also have a longer life like a harder grade material. This material is tough, durable, and excels in rough grinding and cut-off operations. There is less buildup of heat, therefore you’ll achieve longer life for steel applications and when working with stainless steel.
BEST USED ON: Carbon Based Steels; Stainless Steel

ZIRCONIA ALUMINA W/DUAL ACTION GRINDING AIDS

GRIT: 24; 36; 40; 50; 60; 80
PRODUCTS: Flap Discs
DESCRIPTION: Our zirconia flap discs are phenolic resin bonded to a reinforced fiberglass backing that wears with the abrasive flaps. Multiple layers of poly-cotton backed abrasives are stacked in 3-dimensional form, constantly exposing new sharp grains to the work surface. These discs have a high zirconia grain concentration with a specialty resin bond, which accounts for their superior performance. Our zirconia flap discs are manufactured with premium VSM materials. These discs are specifically designed for superior work on stainless steels and carbon steels.
BEST USED ON: Heavy Duty Metals; Stainless Steel

ZIRCONIA ALUMINA W/ GRINDING AID

GRIT: 36; 40; 50; 60; 80; 120
PRODUCTS: Quick Change Sanding Discs (Currently Unavailable)
DESCRIPTION: This grain has a continuous self-sharpening grit. This grain material is good for aggressive and heavy use applications where long life and high material removal rates are desired. With its high cutting performance, it still manages to be a longer-lasting material and suppresses heat. Zirconia Alumina with a Grinding Aid is used for high carbon & alloy steel and stainless steel.
BEST USED ON: Metal Working; Carbon Steel; Cast Iron; Nickel Alloys

ALUMINUM OXIDE

GRIT: 24; 36; 40; 50; 60; 80; 100; 120
PRODUCTS: Body Cones; Belts; Cartridge Rolls; Cone Points; Cords; Tape; Flap Discs; Flap Wheels; PSA/Hook & Loop Discs; Resin Fiber Discs; Sanding Sheets; Shop Rolls; Specialty Abrasives; Spiral Bands; Spiral Sleeves
DESCRIPTION: Aluminum Oxide is the most common and one of the earliest abrasives utilized in grinding wheels. Over the years, it has been used in combination with other materials to produce new abrasives that are now available today. It is cost efficient and a good basic level grain for general purpose applications.
BEST USED ON: Non-Ferrous materials; Aluminum; Carbon Steel; Alloy Steel; High Speed Steel; Tempered Malleable Iron; Wrought Iron; Bronze

ALUMINUM OXIDE W/ CALCIUM STEARATE LIQUEFYING AGENT

GRIT: 24; 36; 40; 50; 60
PRODUCTS: Flap Discs
DESCRIPTION: Our Aluminum Oxide Plus flap discs run cool because of its added calcium stearate coating. This coating liquefies under heat which keeps the material cooler. The AO+ is specially designed for softer metals, specifically aluminum, as the coating will help prevent loading and glazing, which clogs the flap disc with swarf and possibly ruining your workpiece. They are also an excellent choice for blending stainless steel. Our flap discs are contaminant-free, meaning iron, sulfur, and chlorine are less than .1% present.
BEST USED ON: Softer materials; Non-Ferrous materials; Aluminum; Bronze; Copper; Gold; Lead; Stainless Steel

SILICON CARBIDE

GRIT:
PRODUCTS: Cords; Tape; Flap Wheels; PSA & Hook & Loop Discs; Sanding Sheets; Spiral Bands
DESCRIPTION: This is the hardest and sharpest of all the abrasive grains for the coated applications. Used in low-pressure applications, such as paint preparation, Silicon Carbide is a very fast cutting material that breaks down faster than Aluminum Oxide, leaving a fine finish.
BEST USED ON: Masonry; Composites; Ti-Alloys; Steel; Cast Iron; Tungsten Carbide; Aluminum & Non-Ferrous Metal; Plastic; Rubber

GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS IN THE SELECTION OF GRITS

24-40 GRIT coarse for extra heavy deburring or grinding

60 – 80 GRIT medium for medium deburring and finishing

120+ GRIT and finer for cleaning and final finishing

COATED ABRASIVE MATERIAL TYPES FOR METALWORKING

GOOD – Aluminum oxide is a general purpose grain and suitable for most general purpose applications. It is specified for use on wood and most metals.

BETTER – Zirconia alumina grains are both sharp and durable, providing fast stock removal and longer life. They are used to greatest advantage in coarse grits on heavy-duty metalworking stock removal applications.

BEST – Ceramic grain series are products for aggressive and cool grinding. They are faster grinding while offering better surface quality and excellent stock removal rates. The cool grinding properties ensures an extension of the service life and prevents surface discoloration. Ceramics are specifically applicable for grinding high alloyed steels, titanium, nickel alloys and all extremely hard materials.
